downs Albany

Pearl River swept the Albany Lady Hornets 25-13, 25-20, 25-8 in the Lady Rebels opener Wednesday at Albany.

Katie Wallace finished with 10 kills and five aces. Jamie Barry and Taylor Peterson each tallied 10 assists.

Whitney Harris posted seven blocks, while Kaycie Creel had five aces.

Shelby Walker logged six digs.

Slidell defeats Bonnabel

Slidell’s Lady Tigers began the 2010 season with a 25-15, 20-25, 25-17, 25-21 victory over Bonnabel on the road Wednesday.

Quinci Hayward posted 23 kills, three blocks and two digs. Sarah Tate logged 23 assists, while Breanne Rainey totaled eight digs.

SSA tops Newman

St. Scholastica Academy defeated Newman 25-15, 22-25, 25-15, 25-23 at home Tuesday to open its season. Christina Wurm topped the Doves with nine kills and two blocks followed by Kristen McDaniel with eight kils. Audrey Gitz led the way with 14 assists and Mary Grace Gitz added 12. Audrey Gitz, Billie Delahoussaye, Audrey Gitz and Cara Lee recorded three aces each. Delahoussaye collected 16 digs followed by Lee with 12, while Natalie Helm chipped in with two blocks. Newman’s Emily Drennan contributed nine kills and 18 digs to spark the Lady Greenies attack, while Kiley Ezzell dished off 20 assists. Jada Hawkins, Jamie Hawkins and Avery Rowan netted three blocks each. Tyler Edell and Katie Lauricella added two aces each for Newman.

Hannan sweeps Ridgewood

Archbishop Hannan’s Lady Hawks swept Ridgewood 25-22, 25-16, 25-10 Tuesday at home to move to 2-0 on the season.

Kim Nilsson recorded 12 kills and served six aces as

Kassadi Monica collected 19 assists. Natalie Powell contributed four kills and two aces, while Hannah Naquin delivered four kills with a block. Ashley Cabeceiras chipped in with three aces and two kills. Hannan coach Jennifer Pujol said it was a solid team effort. “The girls played well. We are still having some inconsistencies, but the girls are fighting and playing hard as a team. Kim Nilsson did extremely well, especially on offense,” Pujol said.

LHS falls to St. Thomas Aquinas

Lakeshore’s Lady Titans suffered a 25-14, 24-26, 26-24, 25-22 loss against St. Thomas Aquinas in their opener on the road Tuesday.

Linden Schenck tallied 12 kills and four aces. Madelyn Galdamez pulled up 12 digs and Krislyn Lafitteau dished out 23 assists.

Pope John Paul II loses to Hancock

Pope John Paul II’s Lady Jaguars fell in their opener 25-8, 25-15, 25-18 to begin their season against Hancock High of Mississippi.

Taylor Copeland logged six kills, while Jessica Gros passed for 10 assists. Amanda Ahner recorded three aces and two digs, while Martha Dewhirst blocked two shots.
