In memory of “Professor” Gottlieb Kogel, long-standing resident of Slidell, and proprietor of Indian Hills Nudist Campgrounds along with his late wife, Dora Ann Kogel for the past 39 years. Professor passed away Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at the age of 93.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. Survivors include his sister, Charlotte Freese; his long-standing companion, Keala Dourrieu; and Charlotte Freese’s nephew, John Freese.

He will be missed by his family, his many friends, caregivers, employees, residents at Indian Hills and many daily guest visitors to the campgrounds. Professor was a member for approximately 60 years of the S.A.M. & I.B.M. Magician Fraternity, Shriner’s, Masonic Freemasons (Mother Lodge 373 and Lodge 311 in Slidell). He was also a member of the Lakeshore Chapter 59 of the Eastern Star, Slidell since April 12, 2005.

The ceremony will include a viewing from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. W. (in Forest Lawn Cemetery), Slidell. From 12:15 p.m. until 1 p.m., there will be three short ceremonies lasting approximately 15 minuets each from members of the Masonic Lodge 311, Eastern Star Lodge 59 and S.A.M. & I.B.M. Magicians called “The Breaking of the Wand.” A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 p.m. Interment will be private at a later date.     " Sad to hear the "Proffesor" has passed. My condolences to his friends and family. Just curious though, since nudity was such an important part of his life, did he request to be buried naked? "
