To celebrate everything Irish, the Olde Towne Slidell Association is staging its annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Olde Towne Sunday.
The festivities begin at 1 p.m. in front of Slidell City Hall on Second Street. There, floats, bands, bicycles, cars and vans will congregate for some Irish cheer. The 2010 St. Patrick’s Day Parade court will be introduced to the crowd. This year the queen of the parade will be Dawn Sharpe-Brackett, CEO of the East St. Tammany Chamber of Commerce. Her husband, Troy Brackett will reign as the Grand Marshall of the festivities. The lovely Irish Maids, Kim Dernovsek, Mary Thomas, Catherine Olivier and Sharon Newton will join her Highness. Dukes Gene Duvic, Danny Blackburn, Larry Hess and Kirk Bourdreau will escort the Maids.

Besides the usual throws of beads and doubloons, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade is famous for its other culinary throws. Heads of cabbage, carrots, and potatoes will be given out to spectators along the parade route. Those who catch a lot of these goodies can go home and end the festivities by cooking up a fine Irish stew.
