Signs of spring and recovery

Tonight, there will be an event that will signify how far we have come in the almost five years since Hurricane Katrina battered our parish. City officials will cut the ribbon on the new Slidell Council Administration Building, and open the Slidell government to a brand new era.

The building is the new home for the City Council, its staff and the Council Chambers. It will also house the Departments of Finance, Data Processing, Personnel and the office of the City Attorney.Since Hurricane Katrina, the council and the rest of the city government have been working out of the cramped quarters of a complex of trailers on Bayou Lane. Now some of the city employees will have some breathing room.

Katrina deluged City Hall, ruining the old Council Chambers along with several city buildings.

It’s appropriate that the 7 p.m. ribbon cutting coincides with the advent of spring, warm weather and the promise of a new beginning. Festivities start at 5 p.m. with the Olde Towne Alive block party. So come out and celebrate the onset of spring and the start of a new era for Slidell and St. Tammany Parish.
