WES turtle races held

Woodlake Elementary School held its big fundraiser, the Pelican Palooza, Saturday at the Mandeville Harbor.

The event included a silent auction for gift baskets prepared by classes, carnival style games, a bake sale, hamburger and snack sales, karaoke singing, sponsor tents, inflatables and the popular Turbo Turtle Race, which took place in Lake Pontchartrain.

The turtles, which were made of plastic, were adopted out and then dumped into the lake.

The person who had adopted the first one to cross the finish line was awarded a prize.
