Asking for directions gets New Orleans man arrested

Ronnie Ricks, 26, of New Orleans was arrested by Slidell police Friday for doing something that most men won’t do — ask for directions.

Of course Ricks was allegedly driving a stolen car at the time, and he asked directions from a Slidell police officer.

According to Slidell Police Department spokesman, Capt. Kevin Foltz, the incident started around 10:30 p.m. as Officer Theresa Lubrano was waiting in the drive through lane of the McDonald’s on Brownswitch Road. As she was waiting, a 2003 Ford Explorer pulled up next to her cruiser, and the driver, Ricks, asked her for directions to the interstate.

Lubrano obliged and told Ricks how to get to the interstate, but she had to explain the directions several times, because Ricks did not seem to understand what she was saying.

Ricks finally drove off, and Lubrano called the police dispatcher and asked them to check the records on the Explorer’s license plate. The dispatcher told Lubrano that the Explorer had been stolen from Kenner earlier that day.

Lubrano drove around the area looking for the car, and told other police units to be on the lookout for the Ford. It was finally spotted by Detective Daniel Seuzeneau, going over the U.S. Highway 11 overpass toward Gause Boulevard. Other units were called in, the vehicle was stopped, and Ricks was arrested on charges of possession of stolen things and possession of marijuana.

Foltz said that Ricks is now in the St. Tammany Jail under a $22,000 bond.

Maybe Ricks should have taken a car with GPS, and he would never have to ask for directions.
