The Southeastern Louisiana Steel Sharks got down early 6-0, but tallied the final 28 points to stay undefeated in a 28-6 victory over the Orange Tigers Saturday at William Pitcher Junior High School.

The Steel Sharks, a semipro football team in the Southern American Football League, are 5-0. Southeastern Louisiana is the final undefeated team in the SAFL as the Baton Rouge Riverboat Bandits lost to the Jackson Juggernauts 28-6. The Steel Sharks have outscored their opponents 114-50.

Steel Sharks’ general manager Lee Hillman said he likes the start, but it only gets tougher from here.

“It feels good to be 5-0 and being the only undefeated team in the league,” Hillman said. “But now there’s a big bulls-eye on our chest. The rest of the season won’t get any easier with a target on our back.”

The Tigers, out of Orange, Texas, located outside of St. Charles, is 3-2.

Things looked gloomy at the beginning for the Steel Sharks as the Tigers intercepted a pass on the first possession and returned it for a touchdown to take a 6-0 lead.

Southeastern Louisiana responded by scoring a touchdown each quarter in the victory.

The Steel Sharks’ touchdowns came from Kendrick Perry, LaZedrick Cowart, Brandon Newman and Chris Leonic.

Perry’s score was a 65-yard run and he finished with more than 150 yards rushing.

L.J. Daugtry was successful on all four extra-point attempts.

Defensively, Thaddeus Williams finished with four sacks and Corun Riley picked off a pass for the second consecutive week.

M.J. Novels ended the game by recovering a fumble.

The Steel Sharks season continues Sunday afternoon with a game against the Jackson Juggernauts (3-2) with kickoff scheduled for 3 at William Pitcher Junior High. It will be the second meeting between the two teams. In the opening week, Southeastern Louisiana erased a 24-0 deficit and scored 26-fourth quarter points to pull of a 26-24 win.

Tickets are $8 for adults, $2 for children ages 5-12 and those 4-under get in free.
