Pope John Paul II’s Jaguars traveled to Metairie Park Country Day Saturday to participate in a three-way scrimmage, which also included Carver.

The first-team players ran 12 plays against each other and then the second-teamers ran 10 plays. Each squad matched up against the other two teams.

The competition was originally scheduled for Friday, but due to lightning, the event was postponed to Saturday. The Jaguars’ defense was missing five starters due to injuries and a retreat.

Things didn’t start off as planned for PJP as Country Day scored on a 70-yard play to begin.

One of the highlights for the Jaguars was senior running back Tyler Lusignan posting a 40-yard run.

Also sophomore Kyle Canulette had two runs for about 30 yards.

Jaguars’ coach Mark Jeanmard said his team struggled.

“I didn’t think they played well as a team,” Jeanmard said. “The good thing is when it was over, they realized they didn’t have the intensity and the fire.”

Jeanmard also said Pope John Paul II came back on Monday with a good day of practice.

PJP is playing in the Newman Jamboree against the Greenies Friday night at 7.
