Knights 17/18s go 4-2-1 at Premier World Series

The Louisiana Knights 17/18s went 4-2-1 in Premier World Series held last Wednesday through Sunday in Dallas/Fort Worth.

The Knights 17/18s (18-23 at press time) dropped their first game 9-1 to the Houston Heat as the Knights committed six errors and were held to just three hits last Wednesday at Arlington Heights High School.

Tyler Clark singled and collected an RBI, while Trey Marino (.303 batting average) and Michael Paul (.329 with one homer and 22 runs batted in) both singled.

Randy LeBlanc (3-5) suffered the loss.

On Thursday, the Knights came back with a 4-2 victory over the Arlington A’s Red at Weatherford Community College.

Matt Lipham (.255) registered two hits and he drove in a pair of runs, while Paul doubled, scored and posted an RBI. Michael Pustanio and Justin Vaughn (.293) had one hit and one run each.

Starting pitcher Logan Peterson (5-2, 1.91 ERA) got the win, going all seven innings, allowing two earned runs on 10 hits with six strikeouts and just one walk.

In Thursday’s second game the Knights 17/18s settled for a 1-1 tie with Team Ontario 18s at Weatherford Community College.

Paul, Lipham and Keller Douglas all singled, while Marino doubled, accounting for the Knights 17/18s hits. Pustanio tallied the Knights’ lone run.

Hunter Ham (1-2, two saves) pitched all seven innings, giving up no earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts, two walks (one intentional) and he hit two batters.

In Friday’s first game, the Knights cruised past the Arlington A’s Red 13-4 at Weatherford High School.

Paul and Brady King (.309) collected two hits and three RBIs apiece, while Randal Meyer homered and drove in two runs as part of a two-hit performance. Peterson (.308) doubled and picked up a pair of RBIs, while Pustanio singled and drove in a pair. Elisha Settoon (.258) and Jacob Trapani both had a single. Clark scored two runs, while Lipham tallied once.

Vaughn (3-0, 2.63 ERA) pitched a complete-game five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk for the victory.

The Knights continued to play well on Friday defeating the KC Sluggers 14-6 in their second game of the day, this one at Arlington Heights High School.

The Knights 17/18s pounded out 16 hits.

Peterson had a monster game, clubbing two homers and driving in six runs. Justin Viger (.419) hit a solo homer, his first of the summer.

Robert Boudreaux (.275) went 3-6 with a double and a pair of RBIs. Pustanio finished 2-4 with a double and two runs batted in, while Paul collected two hits, including a double and an RBI. Clark, Laigast and Settoon all singled in the victory.

Douglas started and got the win, allowing five earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts, three walks and one hit batter in four and one-third innings of work. Meyer threw in relief and gave up two hits with four strikeouts in one and two-thirds innings.

The Knights 17/18s topped Nebraska Sluggers 10-4 over at Weatherford High School Saturday.

Lipham finished with two hits and four RBIs, while Boudreaux singled twice and posted two runs batted in. Pustanio had a hit and drove in a run, while Peterson went 1-2 with a run and Paul picked up an RBI. Meyer singled and scored twice, while Vaughn registered a hit and tallied three times. King singled and LeBlanc scored a run for the Knights.

Trey Marino started and got the win, going four innings, allowing two runs on three hits with four strikeouts and five walks. Settoon pitched in relief and allowed no earned runs on one hit with two strikeouts and two walk in three innings.

The Knights lost their final game of the tournament 9-1 to the New York Nine Sunday at the University of Texas Arlington.

Peterson doubled and drove in a run, while Marino doubled. Meyer and Pustanio both singled for the Knights.

LeBlanc started and took the loss.

On Wednesday, the Knights 17/18s defeated the Southland Hogs 5-1 at Southeastern Louisiana University.

Paul posted three doubles. Lagaist, Lipham and Marino all singled and drove in a run, while Douglas was hit and drove in a run. Vaughn singled and scored twice, while Settoon singled and tallied a run.

The Knights coaxed nine walks.

Boudreaux (1-3, 1.09 ERA) picked up the win. He gave up one run on six hits with two strikeouts, two walks and he hit three batters. Ham secured his second save, throwing two scoreless innings of two-hit ball.

Wednesday’s game was not part of any tournament.

The Knights 17/18s started playing in the Knights’ Classic yesterday, which goes through tomorrow at Southeastern Louisiana University.
