La. Knights 18s go 5-1 in Premier World Series

Gough-Fortenberry, Livingston come up big

The Louisiana Knights 18s recorded a 5-1 mark in the Premier World Series held last Wednesday-Sunday in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas.

Chad Gough-Fortenberry and Chad Livingston had hot bats throughout the tournament for the Knights 18s. During the competition, Gough-Fortenberry went 11-18 (.611) with two homers, 11 runs batted in and three runs scored. Livingston was 9-15 with four RBIs and he scored five times. At Thursday’s press time, for the summer, Gough Fortenberry was hitting .461 with five homers and 29 runs batted in. Livingston was batting .368 with two home runs and 28 RBIs.

The Knights 18s (37-10 at press time) opened the tournament by pounding the KC Sluggers 16-2 as Gough-Fortenberry had a monster day hitting two home runs and driving in eight, while adding a double and stealing a base in the game was called after five innings at Weatherford Community College.

Livingston collected two hits and scored twice, while Wes Rea (.507 batting average with six round-trippers and 37 RBIs) clubbed a solo homer in a two-hit performance. James Abraham singled and drove in a run, while James Winget posted a hit.

Winning pitcher Nathan Fury (6-0, 2.31 earned run average) started and threw four innings, allowing two runs on two hits with four strikeouts, one walk and one hit batter. Cory Thomas came in and threw a perfect fifth with one strikeout.

The Knights 18s then defeated the Austin Wings 12-3 as Abraham tripled, singled and drove in five runs, in Thursday’s first game, which took place at Southwest Christian High School. The contest was called after five innings.

Chase Compton (.362) homered, drove in three runs and scored three times. Gough-Fortenberry continued to sting the ball, going 2-3 with an RBI. Livingston singled, drove in a pair, while scoring twice. Mason Katz (.300) went 2-4, including a double and a run scored. Bryan Picou singled and drove in a run.

Sean Kennel (6-1, 1.54 ERA), the winning pitcher, went the distance, allowing one earned run on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

The Knights 18s won third game 10-1 over the Wisconsin Hitters, as they pounded out 17 hits for the victory in their second contest Thursday at Arlington Heights High School.

Compton homered and tallied two RBIs, while Picou and Rea both singled twice, doubled, recorded one run batted in and scored once. Garrett Cannizaro (.339) went 3-3 with a triple and he scored twice. Gough-Fortenberry finished 2-4 with an RBI. Abraham tripled, while driving in a run and scoring once. Livingston had a hit, an RBI and a run, while Katz added a knock, an RBI and he scored. Winget contributed a single.

Zac Hawkins (4-2, two saves, 1.49 ERA) got the complete-game six-inning win. He allowed one earned run on eight hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

The Knights won their fourth in a row with a 10-6 victory over the Wisconsin Hitters on Friday at Arlington Heights High School as Hawkins hit a grand slam.

It was Hawkins first homer of the summer and he has 23 RBIs.

Gough-Fortenberry went 2-4 with an RBI, while Rea posted two hits with a run. Picou singled and scored. Katz doubled and tallied twice, while Livingston singled and scored. Cannizaro had a double, an RBI and two runs. Compton registered a double and Abraham added a single, while Cory Thomas scored a run.

Jason Greenleaf picked up the win in relief of Boomer Scarborough.

Greenleaf (5-0, one save, 2.06 ERA) allowed one earned run on three hits with two strikeouts, two walks and one hit batter in three and two-thirds innings. Scarborough started and threw three and one third, allowing four earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

The Knights 18s lost their first game of the tournament 4-3 against the Austin Slam Sox at Texas Christian University on Friday.

Livingston had a good day, going 3-3 with a double and a run batted in. Katz hit a home run and drove in two. Rea and Gough-Fortenberry each singled, accounting for the rest of the Knights knocks.

Jordan Rittiner (2-2, one save 1.80 ERA) suffered the loss. He pitched all seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts and just one walk, while throwing just 86 pitches.

The Knights 18s rebounded from the loss by defeating the Baytown Knights 6-2 at Weatherford Community College Saturday.

Compton singled, drove in two runs and scored another. Cannizaro doubled and picked up an RBI, while Rea walked twice and posted a run batted in. Katz had two doubles and he scored twice, while Fury went 2-3 with an RBI.

Gough-Fortenberry doubled and Livingston singled, while Thomas scored two runs and Abraham tallied once.

Winning pitcher David Napoli (3-1, one save, 2.74 ERA) started and gave up two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and three walks in five innings of work. Rea came in relief and picked up his second save with two perfect innings.

At Thursday’s press time, the Knights 18s had a 2.00 ERA.

In Wednesday’s action, the Knights 18s suffered a 9-7 loss to the Southland Hogs and committed five errors.

Katz homered and drove in two runs. He missed hitting for the cycle by only a triple. Gough-Fortenberry singled, doubled and produced an RBI. Picou posted a hit and an RBI, while Winget drove in a run. Compton registered a double and Cannizaro tallied a single.

Thomas (0-1) suffered the loss in relief.

Wednesday’s game was not part of any tournament. The Knights 18s began playing in the Knights’ Classic yesterday, which goes through tomorrow at Southeastern Louisiana University.

Sheriff and Slidell police on the hunt for armed robber

The armed robber, who is suspected of two armed robberies last week on Brownswitch Road and Robert Boulevard in Slidell, is also suspected for the robbery of the Blockbuster Video store at the corner of Gause Boulevard and Military Road Wednesday afternoon.
