The Slidell High Quarterback Club is sponsoring a Golf Extravaganza at Pinewood Country Club July 31. Sign-in for the four-man scramble begins at 1:30 p.m. with a $75 entry fee per golfer.
The cost includes green fee, golf cart, dinner and drinks. Mulligans are available for $10 each and are limited to two per player. First-third place trophies will be awarded. Each golfer gets a ditty bag and the tournament features contests such as closest-to-the-hole and the longest drive. Golfers have a chance to win $1 million at a hole-in-one. Fall Amateur Athletic Union tryouts occur July 25 at the Northshore Basketball Training Center for boys and girls ages 8-14. Tryouts for boys and girls 8-9 are from 10-11 a.m., while 10-11s take place 11 a.m. until noon and 12-14s are being held noon-1 p.m.

New York Knicks’ guard and 2000 Salmen High graduate Chris Duhon will host the Stand Tall Foundation charity golf tournament tomorrow at Oak Harbor Golf Club.
Registration and check in begins at 11 a.m. with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. The cost is $125 per golfer. You can purchase the VIP individual package for $200. It includes VIP dinner (plus guest) the night before and golf for one.

conditioning camp
The Covington Recreation Department is holding a free football conditioning camp for those ages 5-13 through July 31 at the ball field at 28th Avenue and Tyler Street.

The fifth annual Chris Duhon basketball camp for boys and girls ages 7-15 takes place July 20-24 at Fritchie Park’s Gym. The clinic runs 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Pelican Park is holding registration from July 20-31 for various adult sports. Participants can signup July 20 from 6-8 p.m. in the Castine Center. HAVOC Tryouts

Fallen firefighters golf tournament
The New Orleans Metro Firefighters is hosting the second annual National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and Benefit Golf Tournament at Lakewood Country Club in Algiers Oct. 13. The cost is $150 per player or $600 a foursome or $550 before Sept. 15. There will be two flights. The morning flight begins at 8 for first responders and all other golfers tee off at 1 p.m. Three sponsorship levels are available at $100, $500 and $1,000.
Donations go to the National Fallen Firefighters Association and National Football League charities. NFL players will be taking part in both flights. Northshore Tennis Association offers youth program
The Northshore Tennis Association has an ongoing Junior and Mr. Pee Wee development tennis program for boys and girls ages 4-18. It starts with private or semi-private sessions to familiarize youngsters with tennis terms, stroke production and procedures. The year-round programs are held at the Kehoe-France Northshore School and public courts in Covington and Mandeville. Competitions are held for boys and girls 10 and under that have not been ranked on a state level and are new to tournament competition. Yearly registration is $25 and $5 and an unopened can of tennis balls is required per tournament or $8 total per tournament.
