Slidell police have located and arrested the second man wanted in connection with the July 4 armed robbery of the Deluxe Motel on Gause Boulevard.

Like the first suspect, who was arrested July 10, the second suspect, Brandon L. Jackson, 19 was located in Picayune, Miss., where both men lived.

According to Slidell police, information from Smith about Jackson led to Detective Nicky Mistretta finding a recent photo of Jackson. Mistretta compared the photo with the high-quality video surveillance tape from the motel, and confirmed that Jackson was their man.

Mistretta traveled to Picayune, and with the help of the Picayune police was able to locate Jackson’s home at 1304 Jackson Landing Road. Police found Jackson hiding in his bathroom. He was arrested and taken to the Picayune jail, where he is awaiting extradition to Louisiana.

When he is returned to Slidell, Jackson will be charged with three counts of armed robbery.

Jackson and Smith went to the Deluxe Motel July 4 and allegedly held the desk clerk at gunpoint while they took money out of the cash register. The two men are also accused of stealing the purses of two guests who were checking into the motel at the time of the robbery. Surveillance video shows the suspects snatching the purses and slamming a third victim, who is 16-years-old, up against the wall to keep her from running away.

A tip to CrimeStoppers just hours after the motel’s surveillance video was released to the media led Slidell detectives to Smith. Mistretta and the Picayune Police Department were able to locate Smith at his Picayune residence. Drennan said Smith confessed to the robbery after his image on the video was matched to him. Smith also told detectives that he and his partner dumped the two stolen purses in a Dumpster on Gause Boulevard. Police were able to recover both purses.

Slidell police spokesman Capt. Kevin Foltz said Jackson told police that the gun used in the robbery was passed on to someone he did not know. Jackson also told police that he and Smith committed the robbery to buy drugs.

Slidell Police Chief Freddy Drennan said he is happy both suspects are in custody.

“I would like to thank the media, CrimeStoppers and the Picayune Police Department for all their help in bringing this case to a close,” Drennan said.
