Interstate projects may delay traffic

Starting tonight and tomorrow, two construction projects will cause delays for westbound traffic on Interstate 10 and for both east and westbound traffic on Interstate 12 near Lacombe, said to the Department of Transportation and Development.

Starting tonight at 7, road crews will begin laying asphaltic concrete in the east and westbound lanes of I-12 between the Bayou Lacombe Bridge and U.S. Highway 90, or just west of the Louisiana 434 interchange. The work should be finished by the morning of March 29 and will be done at night from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. During the work there will be intermittent lane closures of the left lane in both directions of I-12, and motorists should expect some delays of up to 30 minutes long. The DOTD suggests using U.S. Highway 190 as an alternate route.

Tomorrow starting at 8 p.m. crews will begin pouring concrete, doing striping and removing concrete barriers on the Slidell Rest Area on the westbound side of I-10 near the Louisiana-Mississippi state line.

The work is expected to be completed by the morning of March 27, and all the work will be done between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.

During the work, the right lane of the westbound I-10 will be closed to traffic.

The DOTD said to expect intermittent delays in traffic from 15 to 30 minutes during the construction. Officials suggest motorists use Interstate 59, or U.S. 90 to U.S. 190 as alternate routes.

DOTD reminds motorists the latter route does not allow trucks with non-permit loads.
