Gov. Bobby Jindal announced March 6 he has appointed Covington attorney Richard Traina to serve on the State Board of Election Supervisors.

Traina is replacing Mary Laemers of New Orleans, who has served on the board since 1992.

The State Board of Election Supervisors serves to review election laws and the conduct of elections within the state. There are seven members on the board that include the lieutenant governor, the secretary of state, the attorney general, the commissioner of elections and a designee of the secretary of state, one member of the Clerk of Court Association, and one member of the Registrars of Voters Association. The remaining member is selected from nominations submitted by the presidents of Centenary College, Dillard University, Louisiana College, Loyola University, Tulane University and Xavier University.

The president of Loyola University nominated Traina. Traina is a member of the Louisiana Bar Association, and is a practicing attorney with the firm of Seale and Ross APLC in Hammond. Traina is also a member of the Virgin Islands Bar Association.

He got his undergraduate degree from the Florida Institute of Technology and his law degree from Loyola University.

Traina does not have a time limit on his term on the board and serves at the pleasure of the governor.
