Traffic was halted for several hours Friday afternoon while Covington police tried to sort out a three-vehicle collision on Louisiana Highway 25 that injured a Covington woman.

According to police spokesman Capt. Jack West, around 4 p.m. Larry Ranier, 56, 82324 Anthony Road, Folsom, pulled out of a gas station at the corner of Airport Road and La. 25 in his 2002 F-150 pickup truck and hit an 18-wheel truck driven by Michael Dunham, 41, 11467 Wheller Road, Amite. The big rig lost control and jackknifed, hitting a 2003 Ford Excursion driven by Susan Muegge, 59, 76368 Carroll Drive, Covington.

The impact caused Muegge’s car to flip over on its side in a ditch, trapping Muegge inside.

Covington fire rescue personnel extricated Muegge from her vehicle, and she was transferred to St. Tammany Parish Hospital. Neither Ranier nor Dunham were injured in the accident.

West said witnesses and a videotape from the gas station showed Ranier pulled out without looking and ran into the big rig.

West said traffic was halted on the La. 25 until 8 p.m. and rerouted through the gas station’s parking lot.
