The Mystic Krewe of Perseus celebrated its 39th annual Ball Masque at the Slidell Municipal Auditorium Jan. 31.

The theme of this yea’s ball was “Legends of Valor.” Rotarian Johnny Crow served as master of ceremonies and the band Witness provided the evening’s entertainment.

Opening the festivities was the Slidell High School Navy ROTC honors guard.

Guests were showered with beads and throws as the float crews promenaded around the floor. Each crew represented different adventures and mysteries from around the world.

The officers of Perseus represent roman patricians: Betty Lostetter, president, George Dorion, vice president; Charlotte Grannan, treasurer; Patty Patterson, recording secretary; and board members, George Downy, Joe Snell and Mike White.

Princesses and consorts for 2009 represented “The Fountain of Youth,” while the maids of the court represented African nations.

The high point of the evening was the presentation of the 2009 royalty.

This year’s King Perseus XXXIX is Harry Boarder, a resident of Slidell for the past 24 years. Boarder is a Vietnam veteran and also served as hospital corpsman in the U.S. Naval Reserves. While serving in the military, he met his wife of 41 years, Mary Ethlyn. They have four married sons, William “Bill” Harry, Richard Michael, Robert Patrick and Thomas Francis; three grandsons and six granddaughters.

The Mystic Krewe of Perseus Queen Andomeda XXXIX is Cindy Jensen, an officer of the krewe holding the office of secretary and parties chairman. She has been a member for seven years.

Jensen is married to Niel Jensen, has two daughters, four grandchildren, two stepchildren and five stepgrandchildren.

The Krewe of Perseus Mardi Gras parade will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday following the traditional parade route to Salmen High School.

This year’s princesses and consorts were presented during a holiday party held at the Arcade in Olde Towne Slidell and catered by Chateau Bleu in December.
