St. Tammany Parish athletes active on college signing day

Signing day was a busy time in St. Tammany Parish was active as 19 players from various sports put their names on a letter of intent between Wednesday and Thursday.

Northshore offensive lineman Chris Faulk (6-foot-6, 315 pounds) was part of a Louisiana State University recruiting class that www.rivals.com had rated second in the country to Alabama as of yesterday’s press time. Rivals.com had Faulk listed as a 4-star recruit with five being the best.

Four local players, including Faulk committed to LSU. St. Scholastica Academy had two players Tricia Johnson and Kelly Gautreaux sign with LSU for soccer. Pope John Paul II’s Catherine Luparello was the other Tigers’ commitment as she signed on Thursday.

Mandeville’s Jerry Mitchell will be playing football in the Southeastern Conference as he is heading to the University of Arkansas.

Three local football players, two from FHS, are heading to Nicholls State. FHS’ Darrel Brown and Gerald Gruenig along with Mandeville’s Chad Alfaro will be playing football for the Colonels next season.

The other football commitments include NHS linebacker Chris Wade (Miami University of Ohio) and Pearl River wide receiver Jacob Maxwell (University of Louisiana at Lafayette).

The rest of the soccer commitments include FHS’ Kaley Blanton (Samford), Caitlyn Leumas (University of Southern Mississippi), MHS’ Amy Howard (Auburn) Covington’s Jennifer Watkins (University of Louisiana at Monroe), NCS’ Morgan Springer (Georgia Southern) and SSA’s Lindsey Schwaner (USM).

There was one volleyball signing in FHS’ Lindsey Barron (Central Arkansas). Fontainebleau’s Matt Pittari signed to play baseball at Southeastern Louisiana University and FHS swimmer Michael Saltaformaggio inked his name with Henderson State.
