Parade brings smiles before the 'big game'€™

With a set of plastic bunny ears nestled on her head, Destiny Coleman sat on her dad’s shoulders and reached out for beads hurled from passing floats during a Slidell area Mardi Gras parade Sunday.

At 9 months old, it was her first parade, and she smiled ear to ear.

Like Destiny, thousands of men and women, young and old, lined the streets of Slidell to watch the Krewe of Slidellians roll hours before the Super Bowl.

Some were already in high spirits as they reveled in the parade excitement to “get pumped” up for the game, said Bobby Milan, who alongside friend Al Barletto sported Pittsburg Steeler Jerseys.

“We love it here, and we’ll love it more tonight,” Milan said, beer in hand as he pumped a cheers to the sky.

And while many yelled and screamed while scrambling to catch throws, the event was a mild affair, said Capt. Kevin Foltz with the Slidell Police Department. No parade related arrests were made, he said.

“It was pretty quiet, although there were pretty good crowds,” he said. “Some may have been saving it for the Super Bowl.”
