A complaint over a broken window led to an arrest for aggravated assault Sunday after a Slidell man allegedly threatened a woman with an automatic rifle.

Cassius Conaler, 17, 580 Beechwood Drive, was taken into custody after Slidell police found a rifle and a handgun in Conaler’s house, according to police spokesman Capt. Kevin Foltz. The victim claimed Conaler had broken a window on her house several days before, but Foltz said the woman did not file a report with the police department.

The victim drove to Conaler’s house Sunday and confronted Conaler in his front yard. According to the victim, Conaler cursed her out, went into his house, came out with a SKS automatic rifle and threatened to shoot her. The victim then called police.

When police arrived, Conaler told a different story. He claimed he was inside his house when the victim came to his door. When he answered the door, he said the victim attacked him by spraying pepper spray in his face. He further claimed another person attacked him and hit Conaler on the head. He said he went back inside the house.

Foltz said police officers did not smell pepper spray on Conaler and could not find any pepper spray container on the victim. Plus, police said Conaler did not show any sign of being hit on the head.

Police asked Conaler for permission to search his house, and he agreed, Foltz said. During their search, police officers found the rifle and a handgun in the attic. Conaler insisted he did not own the firearms, but he was arrested for aggravated assault.

Foltz said Conaler was released on a cash bond Monday.
