A suspicious fire in a newly built home Wednesday evening is under investigation by the state fire marshal.

The fire happened between 5 and 6 p.m. on E. Sycamore St. in Lacombe. Members of St. Tammany Fire Protection District 3 responded within minutes, and were able to contain it with few problems.

While most fires in the area require the services of the state fire marshal, the exact cause of this particular blaze is of some concern.

“It appears to have been related to a domestic dispute of some kind,” said Fire District 3 Chief Chuck Flynn. “This was a brand new home, so it’s raised some questions.”

No one was injured, and Flynn estimates damages were mainly due to smoke.
