With the $1,500 recently collected from a Tree Alliance grant, Director Susan Russell and other board members have decided to allow residents to take matters into their own hands.
Russell said the KMB will award a $500 grant to any organization willing to landscape a desired public area. Areas include neighborhood entrances or parks, school grounds, church grounds or any other community grounds.

To apply for the grant, applicants should submit a written description of the project along with a small drawing and picture of the area to be beautified. If chosen, a responsible party overseeing the project must agree to maintain the area.
Russell also said the funds can only be used for plants, including trees, soil, mulch and edging, and the project must be completed within six months of receiving the grant notification.
The grant will be awarded on a reimbursement basis with the recipient submitting receipts for the project.
The KMB Beautification Committee said it would be happy to aid in the design and selection of plants for the project.
Russell said applications for the grant will be accepted from Sept. 1 to Oct. 1.
