Medina was featured on the television show, “America’s Most Wanted.” And is on the show’s Web site, www.amw.com.
A Slidell citizen called police Tuesday and told them that Medino told him he was wanted in Florida for a shooting. The citizen then went to the “America’s Most Wanted” Web site and confirmed that Medina was wanted for aggravated battery with a firearm.

It seems that Medina and one of the roomates got into a heated argument over who was or was not paying their share of the rent for the Crestview, Fla., apartment.
During the argument, Medina pulled out a .45 caliber handgun from his waistband and started firing, and during the gunfire, hit all three roomates. Six bullets hit Hubert Hernandez, who was left a paraplegic with severe nerve damage, and fractures in his left arm. A stray bullet grazed the head of roommate, Marino Valencia, when he came out of his room to see what was happening. The third roommate, Gilberto Hernandez tried to run away, but Medina allegedly shot him in the back.
After Medina fled the apartment in his employer’s Jeep Grand Cherokee, Gilberto Hernandez gave chase, but the severity of his wounds forced him to stop his car in a supermarket parking lot.
Crestview police were unable to find Mendina, and suspected that he has made his way to the New Orleans area, where he was working as a roofer. Crestview police did say that Medina returned the Jeep to his employer’s garage before going on the run.
When the alert Slidell citizen told Slidell police about Medina’s presence in the city, they discovered from the National Crime Information Center that Medina was wanted for the shootings, and could be extradited from anywhere in the country.
Because of the violent nature of the crime, Slidell Police Department’s SWAT team was sent to the Yaupon house to arrest Medina. The team was able to enter the house and arrest Medina without incident, said Slidell police spokesman, Capt. Kevin Foltz.
Slidell Chief of Police Freddie Drennan said that our area has become a haven for wanted fugitives since Hurricane Katrina.
“But we are very glad to have been a part of getting this guy in custody to face justice,” Drennan said.
