Travelers on Louisiana Highway 21 were delayed Monday morning, some for over an hour, by a wreck that required Covington fire rescue units to free the upside-down driver still wearing her seat belt.

Maria Impastato, 30, of Madisonville, was applying make-up when the traffic stopped and she could not react in time, slamming her into a 2004 Durango, according to Lt. Jack West of the Covington Police Department.

The wreck occurred on La. 21 and Marigold Street. After Impastato hit the Durango driven by Amy Terrell, 33, Ponchatoula, the Nissan rolled over onto the passenger side, slid down the highway on its side and flipped over onto its back, according to West.

Impastato was cited for careless operation.

Both drivers were transported to local hospitals for minor injuries by Acadian Ambulance.
