Slidell police are hoping local residents who had their cars burglarized between April and May on North Boulevard will come forward to claim property.

Capt. Kevin Foltz said after Keegan A. Cyr, 21, and Amber L. Dyess, both of 315 Crestwood Loop in Slidell, were arrested May 23 for a string of car burglaries, police recovered a large cache of stolen items that included GPS units, MP3 players, DVD players, cameras, golf clubs, radar detectors and miscellaneous tools.

Cyr and Dyess were each charged with 11 counts of simple burglary, but after interviewing the suspects, the police believe the duo committed so many burglaries they could not remember them all. Cyr and Dyess told police they only broke into cars that were left unlocked. Slidell Detective Bran Brown is hoping that anyone on North Boulevard who was a victim of car burglary in April and May will call him at 646-6181, or 643-3131, or go to the police department on Second Street to file a report.

Brown said if victims have the serial numbers of the stolen items, they should bring them to the police department. He said this will make it easer to reunite the property with the rightful owner.

After the report is filed, the victim can make an appointment with Brown to view the recovered items in hopes of identifying their property.

Chief of Police Freddie Drennan said a lot of these burglaries could be avoided if people remembered to lock their cars when they are parked.
