Fire District 12 will sponsor its Spring Into Safety Fair Saturday at both the North Park and Louisiana Highways 21 and 26 locations.

A bike-a-thon will start the celebration at the North Park station at 8 a.m. Participants must wear helmets, and children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Capt. Ray Newton of FD 12 invites all adults and children to come out for exercise and fun on North Park Boulevard around the fire station.

All are encouraged to decorate their bikes in a fire prevention theme, and prizes will be given to those with the most original bicycle as well as for the most laps ridden around the fire station. Sponsorships are also available.

From 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, the fair at station 124 on La. 21 and 36 will be held. Free health screenings from the Louisiana Medical Center and Heart Hospital, including blood pressure checks, will be held. STARC will conduct early childhood assessments to detect developmental problems. There will also be outdoor safety education and fire prevention. Adults are encouraged to take their children through the safety house.

Other activities include an inflatable maze and bird house painting on cedar fence boards, provided by the St. Tammany Wood Worker’s Guild. The Fuzzy Dice will provide music and will announce bike-a-thon winners at 1 p.m.
