Schools in St. Tammany Parish were largely unaffected by the rash of severe weather that traveled through the parish.

According to St. Tammany Parish School System spokesperson Linda Roan, some schools lost power but none were closed and none suffered damage.

Roan said there were some transportation problems Thursday morning as school buses and parents could not pass through flooded streets.

On Wednesday, there was flooding in Mandeville High School’s parking lot. The ring ceremony was taking place at the school, and numerous cars took on water.

Roan said the parking area has not previously flooded, and the incident was a total surprise. She also said the water receded about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Covington High School’s graduation was delayed about 15 minutes Wednesday night due to the inclement weather but continued as planned with good attendance, Roan said. Project Graduation for the school was scheduled to take place at the Greater Covington Center and was cancelled due to damage in the building caused by the storm.

Students and parents are asked to log on to the School Board Web site for rescheduling of the party, said Roan. The Web site is located at www.stpsb.org.

Other schools did face challenges Thursday from the weather.

Northlake Christian School closed early Thursday morning due to a power outage, and parents were asked to pick up their children from the school.
