PJP II wins quarterfinal game in fast pitch 56

Mandeville falls in quarterfinal

Pope John Paul II won 2-1 against Rosepine in the LHSAA Class 2A softball quarterfinals Friday afternoon.

Michelle Diaz of PJP II, hit a double scoring Rachelle Ammond in the bottom of the seventh with two outs to win the game. PJPII played Pine Prairie in the semifinals Saturday. The game was Saturday at 11 a.m. at Frasch Park on Field 18 in Sulphur for the semi-final round of the state playoffs.

Meanwhile, the Mandeville Lady Skippers lost Friday to the Pineville Lady Rebels in the LHSAA Class 5A softball quarterfinals 1-0. Pineville now has a 31-4 record on the year. Going into the game Mandeville was the No. 21 seed, and Pineville was the No. 4 seed.

Pineville’s senior pitcher, Kelee Grimes, (24-2), tossed a one-hitter to lead the Lady Rebels to victory. Pineville’s lone run came in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ashley Blackman scored from third base on a sacrifice fly produced by Kasey Brister to left field.

Mandeville’s Jennie Trepagnier, (14-6-2) only allowed four hits in the loss. The Lady Rebel’s only hit off Grimes came in the top of the seventh when Elicia Ocmond lined a leadoff single to right.
