Ned Eades Field was packed Tuesday afternoon as inner-city rivals Northshore and Slidell met to determine the 7-5A district champion in the regular-season finale. Both came in with 10-3-district records, but in the end, the Panthers took advantage of Slidell errors for a thrilling 7-5 victory and the district title. The Panthers had just four hits, two by Andrew Cosse, who drove in three runs.

Pope John Paul takes on Rosepine today in state quarterfinals
For the second year in a row, Pope John Paul II is playing in quarterfinal round of the state playoffs in the state tournament at Sulphur's Frasch Park after its 6-3 victory over French Settlement last Friday. The game is set for 2 p.m. on Field 14 against Rosepine, which is located between Deridder and Leesville.

Fontainebleau tops St. Pauls in season finale, 7-3
Fontainebleau senior Chris Prudhomme scattered eight hits and pitched a complete game Tuesday to carry the Bulldogs to a 7-3 season-ending victory over the St. Paul's Wolves at Heap Field. Colton Adkins went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in for the Bulldogs, who collected 12 hits.

FHS Simms signs with Mississippi College
Fontainebleau senior softball player Jessica Simms will attend Mississippi College in Clinton. The Lady Bulldogs’ catcher is a three-year starter. Simms has an academic and leadership scholarship. Simms said Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., was also interested in her.

St. Martin’s Episcopal Saints defeated Archbishop Hannan’s Hawks, 13-1, Sunday behind Jacob Martinez, who fired a two-hitter in the LHSAA bi-district round of the Class 1A baseball playoffs at Mike Miley Playground in Metairie. Martinez (6-1) recorded six strikeouts with two walks.
