In a somewhat ironic twist of fate, Archbishop Hannan’s Lady Hawks, the second-place team in District 7-1A, will host the district champion Northlake Christian School Lady Wolverines Tuesday in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association bi-district round of the Class A state softball playoffs.

NCS (7-14-1) took the District 7-1A crown with a 4-0 record, handing Hannan its only two district losses. The Lady Wolverines had the Lady Hawks’ number in both district meetings, winning 7-5 on March 4 and 5-3 on April 3 to secure the district title.

Hannan (16-7) defeated Franklinton 12-3, in a tune-up game Tuesday. Hannan enters the playoffs as the No. 16 seed, thus securing the home field advantage over NCS, seeded 17th.

Hannan coach Becky Lambert said she’s looking forward to going against Northlake Christian.

“It’s hard for a team to beat somebody three times in one season. I’m sure my players will come out fired up. It’s the playoffs, which means a brand new season. Lose, and you’re done,” Lambert said.

NCS, after defeating Hannan for the district title back on April 3, has lost its last two games, falling to a couple playoff-bound teams, John Curtis, 5-2, and Mandeville High, 8-1.

Hannan junior Alyssa Markham (7-1) will take the hill for the Lady Hawks, going against NCS sophomore Brittany Scearce.

NCS head coach Michelle Anderson said one advantage of playing Hannan is that she or her coaching staff wouldn’t have to do any scouting.

“We won’t have to worry about that since we are very familiar with our opponent. We also don’t have to worry about traveling a great distance,” Anderson said.

“Since we battled each other so close in district, I’m expecting the same type of game. We will have to make the routine plays to be successful.”
