All District 9-4A girls basketball team named

Pearl River and Salmen get two first-teamers each

The all-district team for 9-4A girls’ basketball was named with the Pearl River Lady Rebels and Salmen Lady Spartans getting two players each.

The Lady Rebels went 20-12 overall this season and 6-4 in district, while taking the fourth spot. Pearl River, which lost to Salmen in a tie-breaker for third place, earned a playoff berth before losing to Parkway, 85-62, in the bi-district round. Doris Sylve and Katie Guido were rewarded for their seasons by being named to the first team.

During the district season, Guido nearly averaged a double-double, scoring 9.4 points per game, while grabbing 8.6 rebounds. She hit on 57.4 percent of her shots. Sylve posted 10.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.3 steals a contest, while hitting 46.7 percent of her field goals.

Salmen finished 15-15 overall and 6-4 in district play, which was good for third. Chelsie James and Christina Hursey each garnered recognition on the first-team for their efforts this year.

This season, James averaged 13.1 points a game during district play. Hursey, a point guard, posted five points and four assists a match up.

Franklinton’s Brittany Taylor was named the district’s Most Valuable Player, while teammates Kyra Martin and Tracie Brock were named to the all-district team.

Cabrini put three players on the squad, including Raven House, Emma Alef and Janeicia Neely.

The locals were well represented on the honorable mention list. Pearl River’s Gabby Jeansonne, Caitlyn Harper and Jennifer Esponge were named honorable mention for the Lady Rebels.

Salmen’s Macy Campbell, Rica Smith, Cydne Holden and Amanda Staes were honorable mention for the Lady Spartans.

The only two non-locals for honorable mention were Franklinton’s Gabby Walker and Tomeka Jones.
