Covington senior Matt Myer hurled a complete-game, six-hitter Tuesday to lead the Lions to a 2-1 extra inning district victory over the Ponchatoula Green Wave at Jimmy “Doc” Davis Field. Myer (5-3) struck out nine, walked one and hit a batter going the distance in the eight-inning game. Myer fashioned his fifth complete game in his ninth start of the season. Myer has a 3.88 earned run average in 52 and one-third innings of work.
CHS (18-11) won its second straight district game to move to 6-3. The Lions are tied for second place with the Slidell Tigers heading into today’s road game with the Fontainebleau Bulldogs. Both clubs trail the Northshore Panthers by one game.

Ponchatoula starter Torin Lucas battled with Myer limiting the Lions to just two hits through five innings.
CHS tied it up with an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth on a throwing error. The Lions pushed across a run in the bottom of the eighth to take the one-run victory.
Cory Thomas, who went 2-for-4, doubled to open the inning. Elliot Heintz replaced him as a courtesy runner. He advanced to third on a ground out to second base. With a drawn in infield, Stevie Sharp, who went 2-for-4, stepped in and delivered the game-winning single falling just out of the reach of the Ponchatoula first baseman. D.J. Thompson had two hits and scored a run for the Lions. Outfielder Hunter Anthony, who went 1-for-4, leads the Lions with a .404 batting average. Myer collected the other Lions’ hit.
Northshore downs Fontainebleau
Northshore’s Steven Comeaux helped his team get out to an early lead with a 2-run single in the first, and then made it stand up on the mound during a 6-4 victory over Fontainebleau at home Tuesday.
NHS (16-11) is 7-2 in district play.
Comeaux finished the game with two hits and three RBIs. On the mound, Comeaux (5-3) earned the victory, giving up one run on one hit as Colton Adkins’ sacrifice fly accounted for Comeaux’s only run. He finished with four strikeouts and a walk.
Ryan Eades relieved Comeaux, before Chase Compton came in to nail down his second save of the season with a perfect third of an inning.
Taylor Eads had a homer for NHS, while Cody Deckwa and Taylor Campbell each tallied two hits.
Derek Acosta led Fontainebleau at the plate with a hit and an RBI. David Fiegel and Jacob Palmisano had the other Bulldog hits.
FHS starting pitcher Matt Pittari suffered the loss as he gave up three runs (two earned) in two-thirds of an inning.
St. Paul’s cruises past Hammond
St. Paul’s eased by the Hammond Tornadoes Tuesday, 11-2, in a road game to win its third consecutive district contest. St. Paul’s (14-9) upped its district record to 5-4. The Wolves host Slidell this afternoon at 4.
Wolves’ designated hitter Jordan Crane went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and scored twice. Patrick Huval also collected two hits for the Wolves, driving in a run and scoring once. Beau Trist had two hits, drew a walk and scored once.
Starter Trey Campeaux (4-2) earned the victory. He went four innings giving up two runs on four hits. He struck out five and walked one. Ryan Hickman pitched three innings of scoreless relief allowing just one hit with two strikeouts and a walk.
Hannan holds off Southern Lab
Archbishop Hannan’s Hawks preyed on the Southern Lab Kittens Tuesday clawing out a 24-12 District 7-1A victory in a game played at Southern University in Baton Rouge.
Hannan (4-18) banged out 17 hits to move to 2-3 in district play. Reliever Kyle Nunez (2-4) picked up the victory going one and two-third innings. He allowed one run on one hit. Logan Booksh started going five-plus innings giving up 11 runs on six hits.
Booksh had a big day at the plate going 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and he also scored three times. Cameron Fenney also went 3-for-4 and scored three runs for the Hawks.
Joey Larocca was 3-for-5, drove in two runs and scored twice. Chad Boihem added two hits and scored three times for Hannan.
Fontainebleau trims Ponchatoula
Fontainebleau’s Bulldogs edged the Ponchatoula Green Wave, 3-2, in eight innings on Monday in a district game played at the Bone Yard led by Addison Melancon who tossed a complete-game, four-hitter. He struck out six and walked three.
Fontainebleau won the game with a run in the bottom of the eighth. Jacob Palmisano, who went 2-for-4, singled with two outs. Scott Malaschak doubled putting runners at second and third. David Fiegel came through with a clutch two-out single to score Palmisano with the game-winner.
Ponchatoula took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
FHS answered with a run in the home half of the inning. With two outs, Daniel Brockhoeft, 2-for-4, doubled and moved to third on a passed ball. Brockhoeft scored when Chris Prudhomme reached on an error.
Ponchatoula regained the lead with a run in the top of the third.
FHS tied the game 2-2 in their half of the inning. Colton Adkins delivered a one-out single and Brockhoeft knocked him in with a triple.
The next two hitters struck out stranding Brockhoeft at third.
