CHS blanks SHS with McDaniel, Stanga

Covington’s Lady Lions capped off their District 7-5A title with an exclamation point at home Saturday blanking the Slidell Lady Tigers, 4-0, behind senior catcher Meghan McDaniel’s two-run homer in the bottom of the first. It was McDaniel’s 10th homer of the year. She hit .632 in district with a team-high 24 runs batted in. Overall, McDaniel hit .506 on the season with a club high 39 RBIs.

Covington is 19-10-2 overall. CHS junior hurler Lisa Stanga (15-8-1) finished with a 13-1 district record.

Stanga tossed a one-hitter. She also contributed an RBI double. Covington third baseman Kelsie Gassen delivered a RBI sacrifice fly scoring McDaniel after she had singled.

Blakely Faciane had Slidell’s only hit. Breanne Rainey took the loss. She allowed three earned runs on four hits in six innings of work.

Northshore takes care of Ponchatoula

Northshore’s Lady Panthers finished the season tied for second in district by knocking off Ponchatoula, 9-3, in Monday’s regular season district finale at Ponchatoula.

NHS (18-7-2) ended the year with a 10-4-district mark.

Christina Hart went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in for NHS, while Fallon Lumpkin had an RBI double. Lumpkin (6-2) was the winning pitcher going two innings and allowing one run, a homer, on three hits in relief of Lindsey Bouché.

Fontainebleau blanks Hammond

Fontainebleau senior Lailey Huff went 3-for-3 with a triple, scored three runs and drove in two to spark the Lady Bulldogs to a season ending 12-0 six-inning district road victory Monday over the Hammond Lady Tornadoes.

FHS (9-17) finishes the season with a 4-10 district record. Fontainebleau junior starter Alyssa Ranzino (3-4) went three innings to gain the victory. Christina Guy and Kendyl Stevenson finished up for the Lady Bulldogs. Senior Brooklyn Mendez had a triple, was hit by pitches twice and scored three runs.

Mendez, the Lady Bulldogs’ sure handed centerfielder, who has signed to attend Hinds Community College in Raymond, Miss., finished the season without committing an error. She handled all 38 of her chances.

She had 35 putouts and three assists to record her 100 percent fielding percentage. Lady Bulldogs’ senior third baseman Jade Hewitt, who has signed with Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. had a hit and drove in two runs.

She also walked twice and scored two runs.

Senior Jean Bernard, who signed a soccer scholarship with Louisiana Tech, scored twice for the Lady Bulldogs and drove in a run with a hit.

PJP plays St. Charles Catholic to a tie

Pope John Paul II’s Laura Ricciardone threw a nine-inning, two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts in a 0-0 tie against St. Charles Catholic during a nine-inning non-district game Friday at PJP.

The contest was called due to rain.

The Lady Jaguars, who won District 9-2A, head into the playoffs at 22-1-3.

Jeanne Delaup finished with two of the three PJP hits as Brittany McGowan had the other one.
