St. Paul’s Wolves won their second consecutive district game Saturday, spanking the Mandeville Skippers, 13-3, in five innings at Heap Field.
SPS (13-9) evened its district record at 4-4 heading into yesterday’s road game with Hammond. MHS (11-9) was also 4-4 at press time yesterday going into a home game with the Slidell Tigers.

SPS starter Jason Greenleaf (3-1) went all five innings. He allowed three runs on nine hits, striking out four and walking one.
MHS’ Ross Hardy went 2-for-3 with two doubles. He delivered an RBI double in the fifth and scored once for the Skippers. James Winget also contributed a run scoring single in the fifth. Remy Angelle came up with an RBI single in the second inning, while Jamie Bruno went 2-for-3 with a double.
Winget (1-2) started and took the loss. He went three and a third innings allowing nine runs (six earned) on seven hits. He struggled with his control walking five and hitting two batters. Joey Pajares and Bruno finished up on the mound for the Skippers in relief of Winget.
PJP walks past
St. Thomas Aquinas
Pope John Paul II’s Chad Casey walked with the bases loaded, ending a 3-2 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas in a game that started Friday and finished on Monday at PJP.
PJP (11-7-1) was 7-0 in district at Tuesday’s press time.
The game was originally scheduled for last Tuesday, but rain postponed it until Wednesday when Mother Nature wouldn’t allow the teams to compete once again. On Friday, the seventh inning was started and called due to rain with the score tied at 2-2. PJP had runners on first and second. In the frame, Breck Kline, who had two hits, was hit and bunted to second by Zack Pohto before Vinny Calamari was intentionally walked.
Andre Damiens drew a base on balls before Casey got the walk-off RBI. Casey finished with three runs batted in.
Sean Kennel (3-2) was the winning pitcher. He went the distance, allowing one earned run on seven hits with eight strikeouts and a walk.
Northshore gets past Mandeville
Northshore’s Panthers knocked off the Mandeville Skippers, 8-6, in a home game Friday featuring district foes. The game was resumed after being rained out on Tuesday.
Andrew Bates had a homer and a double with two runs batted and three runs scored for NHS, which posted 10 hits. Taylor Eads got two hits, including a double, and Andrew Cosse collected two hits and scored a run. Chase Compton, who got his first save, recorded a double, drove in two and scored once.
Ryan Eades (2-3) got the win, allowing four runs on four hits with four strikeouts and three walks (one intentional).
Mandeville’s Jamie Bruno went 2-for-3 hitting his fifth homer of the year to lead off the fifth inning. Michael Ruiz went 2-for-3, drove in two runs and scored once for the Skippers. Remy Angelle had a two-run double in the second inning, and Ross Hardy went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
MHS’ John Wenzel (0-1) went four innings and was tagged with the loss. Lee Batchelder relieved Wenzel for the Skippers.
Zachary defeats Northlake Christian
Zachary defeated Northlake Christian School’s Wolverines, 7-2, on Thursday in non-district play with Jacob Fisher going 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and three RBIs. He also scored twice and stole two bases. Zack Von Rosenberg had two hits, scored twice and stole three bases. Zachary took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. NCS answered with two runs in the bottom of the second. NCS’ Zac Hawkins walked and Ryan Pfefferle singled. Tyler Clark was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Joel Brannan hit a grounder to the Zachary second baseman, who got a force out but the relay throw by the shortstop attempting to get two went into the NCS dugout allowing two runners to score to give the Wolverines a 2-1 lead.
Hawkins (3-2) took the loss. He went four and two-third innings. He allowed four earned runs on five hits. He struck out four and walked one. Justin Cromartie relieved Hawkins and finished out the game. He gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits. He struck out six, walked two and hit a batter.
Pope John Paul downs Doyle
Pope John Paul II’s Nate Hewitt went 2-for-2 with a 3-run first-inning double as the Jaguars took a 10-0 victory over Doyle Thursday in a road district game.
Chad Casey had two RBIs, while Mike Atkinson had a hit and scored twice. Zack Pohto and Ross Macaluso each posted a hit and drove in one.
Northshore downs Ponchatoula
Northshore pitcher Cody Deckwa did not allow a hit until the sixth inning and helped himself out at the plate with two hits and two runs batted in during a 9-3-district road victory over Ponchatoula Saturday.
Northshore (15-11), which defeated Slidell, Mandeville and Ponchatoula in consecutive days, was 6-2 in district at Tuesday’s press time.
Deckwa (1-2) finished the game allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits with six strikeouts and three walks (one intentional) in six and a third innings. Chase Compton relieved him and struck out two of the three batters he faced.
Northshore scored six runs in the first.
Andrew Cosse posted three hits, including a double, and two RBIs, while Steven Comeaux tallied two hits and scored a run for the Panthers, who pounded out 11 hits.
