The Mandeville Police Department is hosting a play at the North Star Theatre tonight to benefit the DARE program.

Located at 347 Girod St., the historic theatre will provide attendees a sneak peek of the play “Time out for Ginger” by Ronald Alexander, set to officially open Friday night.

Theatre owner and play director Lori Bennett said the police are given this opportunity every year to raise money for their DARE program by selling tickets to a selected play.

This year the police are inviting guests to attend the unofficial opening of the play, which Bennett said will be similar to a dress rehearsal.

She also said food may be present.

“Time out for Ginger” is a play involving a teenage girl with the desire to try out for the football team, which ultimately raises turmoil among her family and friends.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the door.
