Sponsored by the Olde Towne Slidell Association, the parade began at the City Hall building on Second Street and wound its way through the streets of Olde Towne. Parade-goers were pelted with produce, in the usual tradition, as well as beads, cups, toys and feather boas. Several floats took home prizes for their creativity, based on theme, showmanship, design and originality: Krewe of Mutharoux, Best Large Float; Fools with Tools, President's Choice; Lucky Saints, Best Regular Float; Krewe of Lafitte's, Captain's Choice; Miss Slidell, Best Small Trailer or Mini-Float; Dixie Martin, Best of Truck or Van; Walter Williams, Best Car; Bernell Vaultz, Best Marchers; The Landing, Best Costume; and Galloway's Studio of Dance, Best Dance Team. Each year the parade honors a prominent businessperson or resident that has passed away in the previous 12 months. This year's tribute went to the late Ann McManus, owner of Ann's Flower Shop on Bouscaren Street. |
