2008-2009 school calendar released by School Board

The new school calendar for St. Tammany Parish was released at the committee as a whole meeting Thursday night. The first day for students will be Aug. 8, two days earlier than the current year, with the last day scheduled for May 25, 2009.

Other changes include an extra day off due to the presidential election Nov. 4. Most holidays remain the same, although Christmas or winter break will be a full two weeks.

Vacation days for 2008-9 are:

Sept. 1 Labor Day

Oct. 3 Parish Fair Day

Oct. 10 Records Day

Nov. 4 Election Day

Nov. 24-28 Thanksgiving

Dec. 19 Half-Day for Records Keeping

Dec. 22-Jan.2 Winter/Christmas Break

Jan.19 Martin Luther King Holiday

Feb. 23-27 Mardi Gras Holiday

March 6 Records Day

April 10-17 Spring/Easter Break

May 25 Half Day Records Keeping

In addition, special programs will be planned for Nov. 11 Veterans Day and Feb.16 Presidents Day.

If needed, student makeup days will be taken from the Mardi Gras holidays.
