A teenager hit and seriously injured by a vehicle Friday night during the Orpheus parade in Mandeville suffered a broken leg and head trauma, officials said.
Capt. Ron Ruple of the Mandeville Police Department, who would not identify the teenager, said two to three hours after the parade began at 7 p.m., a group of individuals decided to relocate to a different end of the parade route by foot. That's when a male in his late teens was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Florida Street Extension and North Causeway Approach. Officials said the accident did not occur on the actual parade route.

When officers arrived on the scene, Ruple admitted they were very concerned about the severity of his injuries, but they have since learned the teenager suffered a broken leg and trauma to his head.
"It sounds like he will recover," Ruple said.
Ruple, who would not release the name of the driver of the vehicle either, said he is still waiting on the official police report and toxicology results to determine whether alcohol had a role in the incident.
"No citations were issued," Ruple said. "We believe, at this point, there may have been alcohol involved with the pedestrian, but not the driver."
